Legal AI guide

AI for lawyers in India that ends the manual work

AI for lawyers is software that does the routine work around a case: it reads the court record, finds judgments, writes the first draft and keeps your dates. Here is what that means for an Indian practice, what it cannot do, and how to start.

What artificial intelligence does in legal work

Artificial intelligence in legal work means software that reads, searches and writes legal text the way a junior would, only faster. It finds the judgments that answer your point, writes the first draft of a notice or a reply, and reads a case's record from the court so you do not have to go and check.

It does not argue, advise or sign. Legal AI takes the paper, the searching and the typing off your desk. The judgment calls stay with you.

Where the day goes, by hand and with AI

Most of a practice's hours go on work around the case rather than on the case itself. Here is that work, side by side.

AI legal tools an Indian advocate can use today

  1. Case tracking from the CNR

Add a case by its CNR number and the parties, status, orders and next date come in from the court's own record. For covered district and taluka courts, the cause list adds your courtroom and item number for the day.

  2. AI legal research

Search Supreme Court and High Court judgments by court, judge and date. Each judgment opens with a summary of its facts, reasoning and outcome, and shows how later Supreme Court benches treated it, including whether it was doubted or overruled.

  3. AI legal drafting

Notices, applications, replies, affidavits, petitions and agreements, from templates built for Indian law in English and Indian languages, or from a matter described in your own words.

  4. One calendar for every matter

Hearings, limitation dates and tasks from every case on one calendar, so no date lives only in a diary.

  5. Contracts and signing

Every edit is a numbered version, an approval holds only for the version approved, and signing happens online.

  6. Work as a chamber

Partners, associates and clerks share matters, and each person's role decides who can change what.

What AI cannot do for you

Legal AI is a fast assistant, not an advocate. Keep these in mind:

  • It can be wrong. Read the source judgment and check every citation before you rely on it or file it.
  • It does not know your client. The facts, the strategy and the advice are yours.
  • It does not appear in court or sign for you. What is filed goes out under your name.
  • On the text of the law, the bare Act as published by the Government of India is the authority.

AI and the law: using it safely in your practice

Client papers are confidential, so where an AI tool keeps them matters as much as what it does with them. Ask any tool three things: where the files are stored, who can open them, and whether it shows the source of every answer.

On Law365, files are encrypted, stored on Google Cloud in Mumbai and readable only by the workspace that uploaded them. Inside a firm, each person's role decides who can change what. Research answers show the judgment they come from, so checking one is quick.

How to start with Law365

  1. 1.Add one matter by its CNR

The court's record comes in on its own. It is the quickest way to see what legal AI changes.

  2. 2.Research and draft from the matter

Search judgments and write the first draft without leaving the case.

  3. 3.Let the dates come to you

Hearings and deadlines reach your calendar as the court updates them.

  4. 4.Bring in your team when you are ready

Add partners, associates and clerks, each with their own role.

How each part of Law365 works is in the Help Center, and what every plan includes is on the pricing page.

Start with one matter

Add a single CNR and watch the court's record come in. That takes about a minute, costs nothing, and tells you more than this page can.
