Court fee calculator, state by state

Pick the state, enter the amount you are claiming, and see the court fee on the plaint or appeal, worked out slab by slab from that state's Court-fees Act.

In a suit for money, this is the amount you claim, including interest up to the date of filing.

Pick the state and enter the amount to see the fee.

This calculator reads Article 1 of Schedule I of each state's Court-fees Act. It does not value property, apply a special article (a suit for possession, an arbitration challenge, a probate), or know of a notification issued after 18 October 2026. Check the figure with the court's registry before you pay it.

How the fee is worked out

  1. Each state has its own Act

The Court-fees Act, 1870 has been replaced or amended state by state, so the same claim costs a different amount in Mumbai, Bengaluru and Chennai. Use the state where the court sits.

  2. The fee is on the amount claimed

In a suit for money, the fee is computed on the amount you claim, damages and interest up to filing included. A suit for possession, a declaration, an injunction or a partition is valued under its own section of the Act first.

  3. Each slab charges only its own part

A scale like "Rs. 15 for every Rs. 100 above Rs. 5,000" charges the part of the claim inside that band. A part of Rs. 100 counts as a full Rs. 100.

  4. Appeals pay on the same scale

A memorandum of appeal pays on the amount or value in dispute in the appeal, which can be less than the original claim.
